What I Wore in Rome: Outfit Diary

This summer, I spent six nights in the beautiful Italian city of Rome, and it was incredible. The temperature was over 30 degrees Celsius every day, so summer outfits were needed! I’ve put this post together to show you what I wore in Rome, in the style of an outfit diary.

Day One

Trevi Fountain

When we visited the Trevi Fountain, I wore this gorgeous playsuit. It’s from Primark, so I can’t link the exact one, but I’ve linked something similar – the same goes for all other Primark items in this post! I love the colours and design, and how it looks (and feels) way more expensive than it was.

This straw hat is from Missguided, and the wide brim kept the sun off my face and neck, which was ideal. I also wore my cross body bag, from Fiorelli. I love this bag because it’s the perfect size to carry the essentials, and it’s not too bulky/heavy.

Piazza Venezia & Pantheon

The outfit I wore to the Pantheon, via Piazza Venezia, was this pastel pink playsuit. It’s from New Look, and the lightweight material is perfect to wear in the hot weather, because it helps to keep you cool. I paired this outfit with this nude, cross body bag, from Primark. To complete the look, I also wore these gold sunglasses, from Quay Australia.

Piazza Navona

I went for a casual look when we visited Piazza Navona, so I wore this red and white striped top (Primark), and then styled it with a pair of ripped, denim shorts (River Island). I love the colour of the denim, the ripped style, and visible front pockets, because it adds an edgy touch, but still looks effortless.

For shoes, I wore my Adidas trainers, and these were ideal for the amount of walking we did! Again, I wore my nude bag, and then finished the outfit with a pair of dark, oversized sunglasses, from New Look.

Trevi Fountain (Again)

When we visited the Trevi Fountain again (during the day), I wore this mustard yellow, off-shoulder crop top, together with a raw hem, denim skirt, and they’re both from Primark. Denim skirts seem to have become a trend again, which I’m loving right now, because they’re super easy to wear and style.

I bought these sunglasses from New Look, and I love the style, small frame, and gold detailing around the lenses. Of course, I wore my straw hat again, and then completed the look with my Fiorelli bag.

Day Two

Spanish Steps

The outfit I wore to the Spanish Steps was quite dressy, but simple. I went for this red shift dress, from Pretty Little Thing. Its floral print, lace-up front, and frill detailing around the straps are what stood out to me when I was searching online for the perfect summer dress.

I paired the dress with these nude, barely there heels, from Public Desire. I actually wore a pair of sandals there and back, and then changed into my heels when I got there (for the photos, of course!) This gorgeous bag is from Radley London, and it really completed the look, because of its classic design.

Piazza del Popolo

When we visited Piazza del Popolo, I opted for a casual outfit. I decided on this red, fitted crop top (Primark), and light blue, ripped denim shorts (Topshop). The simple detail and buttons on the top looked great with these shorts. I also wore my nude, quilted bag, small sunglasses, and then completed the look with my Yankees hat. (Yes, a different hat!)

Rooftop Bar (Via Trevi Fountain)

We went for a drink at a rooftop bar, just past the Trevi Fountain, and this was my evening look. (It was quite dark by this point, so I didn’t get many photos!) I wore this black dress, from TOBI, which I love – and featured in this post! I then paired it with these black, cut-out pumps (Primark), and my Fiorelli bag, for a simple, yet sophisticated outfit.

Day Three

Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill

When we visited the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, I wore this off-shoulder, black and white striped playsuit, from Missguided. I then added a thin belt around my waist for extra detail, but I bought it separately, from Primark.

For shoes, I wore my Adidas trainers, and then styled this outfit with my black and white Fiorelli bag, because I wanted to keep the colours quite similar. I also wore my gold, Quay Australia sunglasses, which added a pop of colour to this otherwise monochrome outfit.

Streets of Rome

Wandering the streets of Rome is a must, and I kept my outfits quite simple for this, especially as it was so hot. When we went out for dinner one evening, I decided on this white crop top (Primark), and pastel blue skirt (River Island). This skirt was an absolute bargain when I bought it, as it was in the sale – from £32 down to £10!

The shoes I went for were these pastel pink, cut-out pumps, from Primark. The colours in this outfit look great together, and the perfect final addition was my Fiorelli bag, because it completed the neutral look.

Day Four

Trastevere (Day) & Fontana dell’Acqua Paola

I chose to wear a casual outfit for our day at Trastevere and Fontana dell’Acqua Paola, to stay as cool as possible in the heat. This red, patterned cami top (Primark) looks great with the denim skirt, and also looks effortless.

I also wore my Radley London bag, for a classic look, because black goes with everything. For ultimate comfort, I wore my Nike trainers, and they’re brilliant because they’re airy and lightweight, so they’re great for lots of walking.

Trastevere (Night)

After we’d explored Trastevere during the day, we then went back for dinner that evening, because we’d seen a restaurant we liked the look of. I wore this pink, Primark dress, and I kept the rest of the outfit quite simple, so I paired it with these pink, cut-out pumps, and the same Radley London bag.

Day Five

Vatican City

I then wore this green, leaf print jumpsuit (from Primark) to the Vatican City. The overall style and fit is exactly what I was looking for, and I’m so glad I bought this particular jumpsuit, because it’s super flattering. I then paired it with these white sandals, from Deichmann, as well as my neutral bag, to keep the details minimal.

Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel

There’s a dress code for the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, for example: covering your shoulders, no low-cut tops, and shorts/skirts above the knee. I took this short sleeve top (New Look) and long trousers (Primark) with me, and then got changed before entering. I also changed into my Nike trainers, because I wasn’t sure if I had to cover my feet, so I played it safe (and comfy) with trainers.

Day Six

Bus Tour

We did a bus tour on our final day, so we could explore Rome one last time. I wore this yellow and white striped bodysuit (Primark), and then paired it with my denim shorts. The square neckline and cami straps look great together, and this bodysuit is ideal for summer. I styled it with my larger Fiorelli bag, because it’s big enough to store everything I need, and also ideal for hand luggage!
