It appears that summer is well and truly on its way, which means it’s time to start planning your summer wardrobe! As much as I love wearing dresses in the warmer months, I also love mixing up my wardrobe a bit with playsuits, and more recently added to my collection, jumpsuits.
I was recently contacted by Warehouse and asked if I’d like to collaborate with them on a post about some of my favourite summer styles – playsuits and jumpsuits – and I thought it would be the perfect way to show you some of their collection, and how I would style these different pieces. I would like to clarify that although this is a collaborative post, everything I’ve written is my own opinion, and the playsuit and jumpsuit I’m wearing in this post were purchased by myself, as I genuinely love their pieces. With that little disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into why I love this summer trend…
Playsuits have been a staple item in my summer wardrobe for many years now, and it’s because of their simplicity and variety of styles. They make a brilliant alternative to a dress, and they’re ideal outfits for when you want to look stylish with minimal effort. I chose to buy this playsuit because the bold floral print really stood out to me, and I love the overall design. Firstly, it has POCKETS. This is one of my favourite features, because even though it’s a simple feature, it really adds to the practicality of the playsuit. It’s something so simple, but so effective. The colourful and floral print gives off serious holiday vibes, and this would be perfect to take away with you.
I also love that it has an elasticated waist with pleat detailing just underneath, as it flatters the waistline, without being too tight or uncomfortable. The short sleeves and cut-out back design make this playsuit perfect to wear in the warmer weather, and this simple detail at the back just adds that little something extra to make this playsuit stand out without being too over the top. There is also a popper fastening and button at the very top at the back, which overlaps the material once done up, adding that extra bit of detail to the design.
I chose to style this playsuit with a pair of black lace-up heels and a small, black cross-body bag. I felt as though with such a bold print, the best accessories would be to keep them plain and simple, so that they don’t take too much attention away from the playsuit, but I still added a bit of glamour with a pair of heels. You could also wear this with sandals for a more chilled and casual holiday look, or you could dress it up, as I did, for more of an evening look.
I have to admit that this is the first jumpsuit I’ve ever bought, even though I’ve been wanting to buy one for AGES. I absolutely love how versatile they are, and how many different styles and designs there are to choose from, as it means you’re bound to find one that you love without compromising your own personal style. As soon as I saw this one online, I knew I had to buy it, because the colour is so vibrant and perfect for summer! Jumpsuits can work just as well as dresses for those formal occasions or casual everyday styles, and if you add the right accessories, they’re ideal for a chic evening look – perfect for taking from day to night.
The material is super lightweight, making it a great outfit to wear on warmer days, especially as the trousers are slightly cropped, and the bottom half of the jumpsuit is very flowy and airy, with a straight yet wide leg fit. I really like the square neckline (which is on trend at the moment!), and the fitted top half and loose bottoms give off a very casual vibe, but it also makes for a very sophisticated and classy look, with the thin straps adding a touch of elegance. An outfit as vibrant as this one looks best with a plain and simple finish, as adding patterns would be too much, which is why I love the one striking colour throughout. There is a zip along the back of the jumpsuit, with a hook and eye fastening at the top, which makes this really easy to put on and take off.
I wanted to keep the shoes quite minimal with a jumpsuit as bold as this one, so I chose to wear a pair of nude barely there heels, which add a bit of glam without taking too much away from the rest of the outfit. You could also style this jumpsuit with some chunky heeled, or even flat sandals, for more of a day time look.
Playsuits and jumpsuits are perfect for summer and evenings out, as they’re quick to put together as an outfit without actually spending a lot of time on it. You only really need to add some shoes and accessories and you’re good to go! For me, playsuits have been a summer staple of mine for a very long time, and I’m looking forward to adding a few more jumpsuits into my collection, as they are key pieces to add to your wardrobe. Not only are they comfy and practical (minus a little bit of awkwardness when needing to go to the toilet, but it’s worth it!), they are suitable for many occasions – whether it’s a cover up for the beach or a casual day style, to dressing up for a night out, there is something out there for everyone.
