Comfort vs Style

This is a question many people ask themselves when deciding on an outfit for the day: do I want to be comfortable, or do I want to be stylish? Why can’t we have both? This post is all about my take on comfort vs style, and my go-to outfit for those occasions when you just want to be comfortably stylish…

Joggers, sweatpants, whatever you call them, they’re SO comfortable, and they’re ideal for adding comfort to your outfit. I actually bought these grey joggers in Primark, and I bought them to wear on the plane to and from Thailand – talk about #airportstyle! They were fairly cheap, and allowed me to travel in comfort. There’s nothing worse than wearing jeans on a (long-haul) flight – I honestly don’t know how people do it. What I love about these grey joggers is the basic style and fit. I think a lot of people are scared to wear joggers / tracksuit bottoms in fear of looking a little ‘trashy’, when in fact, they’re a really popular fashion item, and a staple in many people’s wardrobes! I’m not talking about those ones that almost hang around your ankles (although, I’m sure that’s more down to the person wearing it than being designed like that), but joggers have really come into fashion, and there are so many different designs and styles to choose from, that I would be surprised if you couldn’t find a pair you like.

When I bought these joggers a few months ago, there were quite a few different colours to choose from, but I wanted a grey pair as I already have a camel pair from Missguided, and I wanted to keep the colour quite neutral. Plus, grey is super easy to wear with other colours. They also have pockets (a must!), and the drawer string waist allows you to adjust them to what fits you best. Another thing I love about these is the length and fit around the ankle. I’m the same with jeans; I don’t like them being too loose around the lower leg. These are perfect because they are quite fitted along the leg, and are not too baggy, which also really shows off your figure!

You may or may not have noticed that the colour of the joggers are slightly lighter than the colour of the jumper. That’s because they’re not part of a set, and the jumper is something I bought separately from Missguided. I bought this cropped jumper around 7 months ago (I took it to New York with me last October), and it wasn’t until I got the joggers home that I realised how the two grey colours complement each other really nicely. Even though it’s only a subtle difference, I love the two-tone effect, and this also makes the writing on the jumper stand out more. This jumper stood out to me as I love the oversized feel of the sleeves, yet the cropped design gives a really flattering look. I’m usually a size 6/8, and I bought this jumper in a size S, and it fits perfectly. It’s still oversized without looking too small or short in the body – yes, even though it’s cropped! The bold colours in the text on the front are eye-catching, and I think it adds to the ‘style’ element of a comfy outfit.

This outfit is super comfortable to wear, and the little details like the colours on the front of the jumper, the cropped yet oversized design, and the fitted joggers, all make this outfit ideal for when you want to be both comfortable and stylish. There are so many other ways you could dress up or down this outfit, depending on your own personal style. You could add a pair of nude strappy heels if you wanted to add a bit of glamour, or you could keep it all comfort with a pair of trainers, like I did. These Nike trainers are honestly so lightweight and comfy to wear, you can barely feel them on your feet, and I love how the black from the trainers goes well with the black writing on the jumper. It’s the small details that can make the biggest difference to an outfit, which is why I added a pair of dark sunglasses, to make it that little more stylish. Accessories are the best way to add style to an otherwise simple outfit, and I thought these sunglasses added a little bit of chic to the sports luxe theme I had going on.

Ultimately, dressing the way YOU want to dress is what’s important, and dressing for your own comfort and style will make you look and feel great! There are so many different brands that cater to the latest trends, and being comfortable AND stylish is definitely one of those. It’s all about finding what works for you, but it just goes to show there doesn’t have to be a choice between comfort and style, when you can have both and still look great!

I love how joggers are frowned upon until its in fashion then suddenly it’s acceptable! I really like the crop top with this outfit, it’s flattering as you said and I think it makes it look more put together. And sometimes it’s nice to dress casual and comfy!
