We are currently halfway through winter, and I think it’s safe to say I’ve found my ultimate winter fashion staple: the teddy coat. Unless you’ve been hiding from social media this season (or the Instagram algorithm just hasn’t been showing you), you will have noticed that the teddy coat has been one of the biggest trends this winter. I mean, if the reaction to this coat on my Instagram is anything to go by, then I can tell that you have all been loving this teddy coat as much as I have. I would probably say that it’s my favourite fashion item that I bought throughout the winter season, but it’s also one of those “too nice to wear all the time” coats. I’ve been styling this coat for evenings and meals out, rather than wearing it every day, as I genuinely think it’s too nice to wear all the time, but it’s ideal to wear when you want to add a little chicness to your outfit.
I love the length and style of this coat, which is what initially drew me in when I was browsing through the Boohoo website. I probably spent a good couple of months searching for the perfect teddy bear coat, and then I finally found it in this one. Online shopping can be kind of difficult when it comes to buying things like coats, because you can’t actually feel how warm or thick they are, but when this arrived, I was blown away by the material. It is so unbelievably soft, I think I brushed it up against my face a good few times before I even tried it on – it’s THAT soft – plus, it’s faux fur! This coat has three popper fastenings at the front, and a stunning oversized collar. I personally think that the fastenings are a bit low (half way down the coat), but the soft oversized collar makes up for the lack of poppers at the top, as you can pull it in like a scarf, which keeps you lovely and warm at the top.
I also love the nude/camel colour, as it makes it easy to style alongside pretty much anything, due to its soft, neutral tones. It can easily be dressed up or down, depending on what you decide to wear it with. I’ve chosen to style this gorgeous faux fur coat with a multi-coloured knitted jumper, as I love how the colours complement one another in this outfit. I also paired it with some black coated jeans, which I thought added that extra bit of sass, plus it’s different from a casual pair of black skinny jeans, which I seem to wear a lot anyway. For shoes, I had to go all out with a pair of grey lace-up heeled boots, because this look wouldn’t have been complete without adding a bit more glamour, and I think these heels complete the chic look I was going for.
Not only are teddy coats stylish, but they are also really warm, cosy and comfortable. Winter usually means that we opt for layers when choosing our outfits, and most of the teddy coats I’ve seen this season are quite oversized, and are therefore more of a ‘statement’ coat. I think makes them perfect for throwing on top of an outfit that doesn’t require a lot of thought. I mean, let’s face it, we all have days where we just want to throw any old outfit together and hope for the best, but a teddy coat can actually make it look as though you tried (bonus), and it’s the ultimate finishing touch to an otherwise simple outfit. The ability to transform a basic outfit with minimal effort shows just how versatile teddy coats are, as there are no set rules when it comes to fashion. There are also lots of various colours and styles to choose from, so you’re bound to find the perfect teddy coat for you!
